I/O remoti per zone pericolose
Elantas Beck aggiorna le schede di interfaccia da 19" con il sistema I/O remoto compatto excom di Turck
Elantas Beck, con sede ad Amburgo, produce resine impregnanti liquide e vernici ed è leader di mercato in questo settore. Prima di giungere al prodotto finale, le resine compiono un percorso attraversando diverse fasi di reazione e stazioni di misurazione di temperatura, pressione e altri parametri di processo. La tecnologia di interfaccia a 19" è datata anni '90 e oggi sono disponibili solo pochi pezzi di ricambio. Per questo l'azienda ha aggiornato la prima linea di produzione con una tecnologia moderna: il sistema I/O remoto excom di Turck.
Dopo molti anni di utilizzo, le schede di interfaccia da 19" sono diventate sensibili ai difetti. Poiché era sempre più difficile reperire schede nuove, l'azienda era in cerca di un'alternativa. Per questo si era giunti alla decisione di modernizzare la tecnologia di interfaccia per una linea reattore e utilizzare le schede ancora intatte come pezzi di ricambio per altre linee reattore.
Fieldbus anziché rack da 19"
Thomas Pölking, responsabile della manutenzione, ha valutato diverse alternative, optando alla fine per una soluzione fieldbus. "Desideravamo una soluzione semplice e moderna, con barriera per circuiti a sicurezza intrinseca e collegamento diretto e semplice al nostro PLC S7", spiega Pölking. "Prima della modifica, la connessione funzionava solo indirettamente".
Dopo la decisione fondamentale di installare un sistema I/O remoto nell'estate del 2008, è iniziata la ricerca di un fornitore qualificato. EAB Automation, azienda specializzata in revisioni, espansioni e impianti di automazione di nuova costruzione per il settore della produzione e dei processi, è stata incaricata della ricerca.
Assemblaggio su rack da 19"
Nella ricerca di un fornitore di sistemi I/O remoti, EAB ha confrontato le soluzioni di diversi produttori prima di scegliere il sistema I/O remoto excom di Turck. "Il sistema excom di Turck si è dimostrato una soluzione I/O remota veramente facile da gestire e talmente compatta da poter essere installata nei rack da 19" esistenti, insieme a tutti i 150 I/O" afferma Jochen Ahrend, responsabile per EAB Automation. I sistemi excom soddisfavano un altro requisito di Elantas, poiché il PLC aggiuntivo per la linea di produzione non è più necessario. "I segnali venivano ora inviati al sistema excom di Turck e quindi direttamente al PLC S7, in questo modo era possibile evitare una deviazione verso un altro dispositivo di controllo", spiega Pölking.
Anche se questo è stato il primo progetto in cui EAB ha implementato excom, la pianificazione si è dimostrata altrettanto facile della realizzazione. Nell'autunno del 2008, i dipendenti sono stati in grado di installare e avviare il sistema nel corso di un solo fine settimana e l'impianto è tornato pienamente operativo dal lunedì mattina successivo. "Non avevamo alcuna esperienza con il prodotto, quindi il supporto di Turck ci ha aiutato molto", chiarisce Ahrend. "Quando ponevamo domande, queste hanno sempre ricevuto una risposta rapida e precisa dai tecnici Turck, per permetterci di portare a termine il progetto con successo".
Sistema flessibile
Anche se per questo progetto il sistema I/O remoto non è stato installato in un'area pericolosa, è possibile installare excom in aree classificate come Zona 1 e 2. I circuiti locali sono approvati per l'uso anche nella Zona 0. I moduli I/O con grado di protezione IP20 offrono quattro ingressi o uscite analogici oppure da quattro a otto ingressi o uscite digitali con una larghezza di 18,2 mm. Due alimentatori ridondanti, due gateway ridondanti e fino a 16 moduli I/O possono essere installati su un'area di 43,2 cm per 20,6 cm per 11 cm. In questa configurazione, sono disponibili in uno spazio molto piccolo fino a 128 canali digitali o 64 canali analogici.
