Bayer CropScience testa nuovi principi attivi con supporto RFID di Turck
Gli scienziati di Bayer CropScience AG testano nuovi principi attivi per verificarne l'idoneità come pesticidi per l'agricoltura, spruzzandoli sulle piante in un sistema automatizzato. Il sistema BL ident, di Turck, a tecnologia RFID, garantisce visibilità e un'identificazione ottimale di ogni pianta.
Nei propri laboratori di ricerca a Monheim, in Germania, gli scienziati di Bayer CropScience sono continuamente alla ricerca di nuovi principi attivi con l'aiuto di macchine nuove e moderne. Uno dei primi passaggi in questo processo è chiamato screening primario. In questa fase, le sostanze di nuova concezione vengono testate per valutarne l'efficacia irrorandole automaticamente sulle piante.
Screening primario completamente automatico
Bayer CropScience ha sviluppato una linea di irrorazione completamente automatica per il processo di screening primario in grado di gestire oltre 25.000 operazioni di irrorazione l'anno. Durante ogni ciclo di irrorazione, tre gruppi di piante vengono irrorate contemporaneamente con tre diverse sostanze sottoposte a test. I gruppi di piante contengono piante ospiti per otto malattie delle piante.
Il fattore più importante durante questo processo è la chiara identificazione dei gruppi di piante e la correlazione con le sostanze irrorate. Inizialmente venivano utilizzati adesivi con codice a barre, ma le macchine sono state recentemente aggiornate con la tecnologia RFID senza contatto.
Per individuare la soluzione RFID ideale, il team di progetto tecnico ha preso in considerazione diversi sistemi e fornitori. Alla fine, è stato scelto il sistema RFID BL ident di Turck.
Facile gestione con Codesys
Per Volker Bachmann, specialista in controlli nel reparto Robotik di Tectrion, BL ident presenta un altro vantaggio imbattibile: "Il sistema RFID di Turck è programmabile con Codesys e quindi crea la flessibilità assegnando azioni complesse ai dispositivi sul posto. In questo modo si alleggerisce il carico sul computer che controlla la procedura di test".
Durante il passaggio alla tecnologia RFID, i tecnici di Tetricon hanno dovuto dotare circa 1.000 vasi di un tag incollato al centro degli stessi. Ogni tag presenta uno spazio di memoria di 128 byte e contiene tutte le informazioni relative alla pianta specifica.
Una testina combinata di lettura/scrittura RFID Turck Q80 scrive e legge i dati immediatamente dopo che i vasi lasciano l'unità di irrorazione. Un'altra testina di lettura/scrittura si trova nel punto in cui i vasi di piante escono dalla macchina. Se la macchina non funziona o se per qualche motivo è necessario identificare i vasi, i dipendenti Bayer possono leggere lo stato corrente dei vasi con un lettore RFID portatile. Le testine di lettura/scrittura inviano segnali RFID al sistema I/O remoto modulare BL20. Con uno speciale disco RFID, i dati vengono raccolti e trasferiti a un gateway, che si occupa della comunicazione RFID locale: in questo modo vengono inviati al computer principale solo i dati di riferimento tramite Modbus TCP.
